Quotes about Sleepless Nights

It's time to let go of the day and let your dreams take you far away. Silently, one by one, in the infinite meadows of heaven, Blossomed the lovely stars, the forget-me-nots of the angels. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Night is the blotting paper for many sorrows. Unknown Night's black Mantle covers all alike. Guillaume de Salluste Du Bartas Night has brought to those who sleep, only dreams they can not keep. Enya

Nightmare Before Christmas Coffin Salt & Pepper Shakers: Toys & Games

It's almost Halloween... shouldn't these salt and pepper shakers be on your table??

My own funeral, I'd like to be laid out in a coffin in my own house. I would like my coffin to be put in the double parlor, and I would like all the flowers to be white.  Anne Rice

Tonight's Thought

The role seemed to demand that I keep myself worked up to fever pitch, so I took on the actual attributes of the horrible vampire, Dracula.
Bela Lugosi

I guess I'm pretty much of a lone wolf. I don't say I don't like people at all, but, to tell you the truth, I only like it then if I have a chance to look deep into their hearts and their minds.
Bela Lugosi

Here's hoping that you have great dreams tonight.... hahaha

Night Thoughts

If the Stars should appear one night in a thousand years, how would men believe and adore; and preserve for many generations the remembrance of the city of God which had been shown!  But every night come out these envoys of beauty, and light the universe with their admonishing smile.  ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

O wild and wondrous midnight,
There is a might in thee
To make the charmed body
Almost like spirit be,
And give it some faint glimpses
Of immortality.
~James Russell Lowell, Midnight

In my age, as in my youth, night brings me many a deep remorse.  I realize that from the cradle up I have been like the rest of the race - never quite sane in the night.  Mark Twain

I cannot walk through the suburbs in the solitude of the night without thinking that the night pleases us because it suppresses idle details, just as our memory does.  Jorge Luis Borges

There is something haunting in the light of the moon; it has all the dispassionateness of a disembodied soul, and something of its inconceivable mystery.  Joseph Conrad

Nothing like a nighttime stroll to give you ideas.  J.K. Rowling

I only wish that I could sleep like I did as a child... all except on Christmas Eve lol

The Magic of the Night

I often think that the night is more alive and more richly colored than the day.  ~Vincent Van Gogh

I remember one night years and years ago when my husband and I stood on the beach of Chandos Lake in Apsley, Ontario and stared at the stars. I had no idea that there could possibly be that many stars all twinkling at once. It was amazing and you couldn't help but wonder if somewhere out there someone was standing on on of those stars looking at us!

Thoughts About Ghosts in the Night

Ghost fearImage by doug88888 via FlickrOn the other hand, what I like my music to do to me is awaken the ghosts inside of me. Not the demons, you understand, but the ghosts.
David Bowie

Now there is something to think about. I don't know if I have any ghosts inside of me to awaken!

Science fiction is no more written for scientists that ghost stories are written for ghosts.
Brian Aldiss
He does have a point lol.

Shakespeare also introduces the supernatural into some of his tragedies; he introduces ghosts, and witches who have supernatural knowledge.
Andrew Coyle Bradley
I really need to hawl out my high school English books. I would probably enjoy them now more than when I was a teenager.

The Helicon of too many poets is not a hill crowned with sunshine and visited by the Muses and the Graces, but an old, mouldering house, full of gloom and haunted by ghosts.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Now there is a place to write a ghost story.  A mouldering house just scares you by thinking about it.

Thoughts about Tears

Tears of joy are like the summer rain drops pierced by sunbeams.
Hosea Ballou
*That's pretty much how I'm feeling right now. I just found out that my first grandchild will be a girl!

To weep is to make less the depth of grief.

William Shakespeare, King Henry the Sixth
*I guess that I need to invite William to dinner so he can explain this one to me! My tears usually make me feel worse... unless they are the happy kind.

It is some relief to weep; grief is satisfied and carried off by tears.

Ovid
*I must be doing something wrong, because this doesn't work for me.

Those who do not know how to weep with their whole heart don't know how to laugh either.  Golda Meir

*Another one!! I'm going to have to find out what is wrong with me lol!

Tears are the safety valve of the heart when too much pressure is laid on it.

Albert Smith
*Maybe I'm just looking at the whole topic in the wrong light!!

Here's to a tear free day for everyone!

Is Your Guestroom Comfortable??

I thought so until my mom came for a visit a few months ago. There was a bed, a small table and somewhere for her to put her clothes. What I never thought of was the fact that there was no where for her to sit and possible read. (I did think to put some magazines in the room) And I never thought that a clock would be a nice touch too. Funny, the things you miss when you don’t use the room.
I did a bit of re-arranging and I positioned an easy chair in the corner by the bureau.  It looks far more cozy now.

Starting a Business??

I was just going through my file cards... the one's that I jot any good ideas that I come across and this one caught my eye.

"Instead of leaving business cards, pens etc, leave a Top Ten Reasons why someone should use your company. And if you can squeeze a reason that is a little humorous... even better. *Be sure that you can deliver on those reasons (in other words, don't promise something that is not going to happen) and then sit back and see what happens. How many boring flyers or such have you completely ignored??

Music To Fall Asleep By

Yes, I have been having some trouble lately. I used this video to help relax and actually fell asleep during the afternoon! The trick is to keep it as low as possible so that it blends into the background. Enjoy!

I would love to invite this man to a dinner party! The man is so incredibly interesting!!

Hot Cocoa With Melted Snowballs

Hot Cocoa With Melted Snowballs

With the odd weather that we have been experiencing this year, I thought that a mug of hot cocoa just might do the trick. But the cool part is the melted snowballs that are added!  Okay, for us... they are simply miniature marshmallows... but to the kids, they are tiny snowballs floating in their mug. What a great way to end the night !

How To...

    * 6 teaspoons sugar
    * 4 teaspoons baking cocoa
    * 4 cups milk
    * 1 cups miniature marshmallows
    * 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

   1. In a saucepan, combine the sugar, cocoa, milk and the marshmallows. Stir, while simmer over medium heat until the marshmallows are melted. Remove from the heat, add the vanilla and then ladle into mugs. You must might find that winter isn't so bad after all!!

Kitchen Tips…

1 tablespoon equals 3 tsps
2 tablespoons equals 1 ounce
4 tablespoons equals ¼ cup
5 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon equals 1/3 of a cup
8 tablespoons equals ½ cup
12 tablespoons equal ¾ cup
16 tablespoons equal 1 cup
4 cups equals 1 quart
4 quarts equals 1 gal

---
1 cup semi sweet chocolate pieces equals 1 -  6 ounce package
2 cups granulated sugar equals 1 pound of sugar
4 cups sifted confectioners sugar equals 1 pound of confectioners sugar
2 ¼ cup pack brown sugar equals 1 pound brown sugar
3 cups raisins equal 1 fifteen ounce pack
3 cups of shredded coconut equals a half pound of shredded coconut
3 to 4 tablespoon lemon juice equals one lemon

Don’t forget…
1.    Put on an apron before you begin baking
2.    Read the recipe twice… chances are you will miss something first time around.
3.    Place a sheet of paper over the recipe page that you aren’t using. Trust me, it is very easy to start following the directions of the wrong recipe.
4.    Place all ingredients on the counter ahead of time. That way you will know if you have every ingredient you need.
5.    Keep all of your measuring cups and spoons in one drawer. It’s easier to find them that way! And you might want to have more than one set. Again, it just makes things that much easier.

Cleaning the Kitchen
1.    Fill the sink with hot soapy water and as you use items, drop them in the water to soak.
2.    When you are taking items out of the refrigerator, spot check to see if any shelves need to be wiped down. Doing it on a regular basis makes the job that much easier.
3.    Same goes for the stove. Wipe the surface every time you use it and check the oven as well. Burnt on spills wipe up easier if they haven been baked on numerous times.

A Mug of Cocoa will do you good...

Grasslands Road Nature's Elements 12-Ounce "with God..." Faith Mug
Throat is sore again, I'm cold and feel miserable. I should head for bed,  but all I can think of is a nice hot cup of cocoa... and that's where I'm headed right now.  And yes, I add a pinch of cinnamon to it. Just makes it taste that much better!

No one should be sick at Christmas...

... but I have been since mid December so I'm planning on even a better Christmas next year! We have been vacationing in Florida and you would think that I would be nice and cozy down here, but I'm chilled to the bone. I want to play on the beach, drink margaritas (which I did manage on New Year's Eve) but still feel like crap! Going to make a nice cup of hot tea and try to warm myself up. I don't even want to think of how cold it is in Chicago!

And yes... this was our Christmas tree for this year! Next year, we will do better! It was our own little Charlie Brown tree... florida style!
